While most of Brazil can trace their dishes in some extent to indigenous cuisine, North Brazil gets special claim. This region houses a large portion of the state of Amazonas, so expect to see fruits, vegetables, starches, and meats specific to the Amazon rainforest. That said, the real driver of the cuisine in North Brazil is the region’s most populous state, ParΓ‘. It is known for Tupi cuisine that meets Portuguese colonial cuisine as well as cassava, aΓ§aΓ, pineapple, cocoa, black pepper, coconut, and banana.
