This western oblast borders two major rivers and the Heilongjiang province of China. Because of it’s location, it has historically been traded between different Chinese and nomadic groups until it was annexed by Russia in the 1850s. At that point, there was a large force of ethnically Russian settlers. Because of this, very few non-Russian recipes remain of this region. Of the ones that remain is a Russo-Korean dish called pyanse or pigodi.
