The home of Viet-Cajun cuisine is Houston, Texas in the United States. Between 1975 and 1988, Houston was designated as a major resettling site for Vietnamese refugees. Since then, the Vietnamese population has grown rapidly, leading to an increase of Vietnamese restaurants in the area. In an attempt to mix in their new home, these Vietnamese restaurants served the iconic Vietnamese-style crawfish next to their Vietnamese classics. This crawfish was a marriage of Louisiana cajun crawfish and Vietnamese seasonings, leading to birth of the phrase “Viet-Cajun” in the 2010s.
