The Marshall Islands have historically been inhabited by the Marshallese people, but has been claimed by a variety of non-Polynesian groups. Spain, Germany, Japan, and the United States have all laid claim to the islands between 1592 to 1986. Additionally, food preservation is incredibly important, with foods like dried pandan paste and fermented breadfruit being two iconic examples
