The land of IKEA and Swedish meatballs is so much more than just that. Sweden boasts the tradition of “husmanskost” or “house owner food.” This essentially describes everyday Swedish cuisine made with hyper local ingredients. You can find jams aplenty, root vegetables in a variety of preparations, and a lack of aversion to sweet pastries and treats. The further North you head, the more you’ll find traditional Sami food, the indigenous people of northern Norway, Sweden, Finland, and the Kola Peninsula in Russia. Here, you’ll find reindeer, other game, and foraged ingredients.
