Fiji is a Melanesian country consisting of over 330 islands that shares a lot of culinary similarities with other island nations in Oceania like Samoa and Tonga. Taro, sweet potato, coconut, and breadfruit are all still staples, even though foods like rice and wheat have been introduced due to British colonialism. In addition to these food, British colonialism also brought Indian indentured servants who in turn brought foods like roti and curries. While lunch is usually simple, consisting of a starch, soup, and tea, dinner can be large and elaborate.
