Tibet is famous for its dramatic Himalayan landscape and being the seat of the head of Tibetan Buddhism Dalai Lama, but is less well-known for its cuisine. But much of this is due to the difficulties of getting very seasonal and artisanal ingredients like yak and all of the yak-related products like milk, butter, and cheese. Most of the country is at too high of an altitude to grow many vegetables, leading to a lot of debate within the religious Buddhist community. Expect very meat heavy dishes featuring yak and mutton or heavily vegetarian dishes that take advantage of some of the few lower elevation fields in the region.
